Gran Canaria

Part 1 of 4

One thing i noticed straight away in Gran Canaria was how much motorists respect cyclists. In six days of cycling i didn't get pissed off once (far cry from home). All cars sit at least ten meters back from you and never try to pass you unless they can go completely on the opposite side of the road to overtake this includes the towns as well as the mountains.

The bike i used for six of the seven days i spent on the island, a Cannondale Caad10.

I met some amazing cyclists and would regularly latch on to a group for a bit. These lads were from Italy, Luxembourg and Germany.

About half way up to Soria from sea level

I have never been a big fan of descending hills at speed and this descent from Soria was as scary as it got for me (did it twice). When cycling up it i counted at least fifteen memorials for cyclists/motorists that have lost their lives over the years, so yeah i was bricking it a bit but that was part of the buzz.
